In plain English
Adding Canadian dollars to an account, buying SOL and sending it to a wallet are separate steps. Check each step before you confirm it.
- Add CAD
Review the provider’s funding instructions.
- Buy SOL
Check the purchase quote and costs.
- Optional withdrawal
Confirm that the destination and network are supported.
The precise meaning
Fund a verified account in CAD, review the SOL quote, then check the withdrawal network before sending to your own wallet.
What does network mean?
The blockchain used for a token or transfer. Both ends must support the correct asset and network; a matching label alone does not verify a transfer.

Here is how to buy Solana in Canada: deposit Canadian dollars into a verified crypto account, purchase SOL and, if you want it in your own wallet, make a separate crypto withdrawal. Interac funds the account; it does not send SOL to a blockchain address.
Before depositing money, check both the purchase and the withdrawal. A platform that lists SOL may have separate withdrawal limits or restrictions. Compare how much native SOL would reach your intended wallet for the CAD you spend.
Start with the destination
For external wallet use, confirm that your account can withdraw SOL on the Solana network. Kraken's Canadian buying page documents CAD purchases and external SOL withdrawals. Bitbuy documents account verification, Interac or wire funding, SOL purchases and selling back to CAD; check its current SOL withdrawal support separately before using it for a wallet transfer.
Open your wallet's receive screen and select Solana. Phantom's documentation confirms that its Solana receive address accepts SOL and other tokens on that network. A matching asset name alone does not establish network compatibility.

Deposit CAD, then buy SOL
Verify the account before funding
Complete the platform's identity checks and review the funding instructions in your signed-in account. Check any withdrawal restrictions before buying, especially if you need to transfer SOL immediately.
Deposit CAD through Interac
Kraken's published app instructions say to select Portfolio, Deposit, Canadian Dollar, then Interac e-Transfer. Enter the amount, review the details, choose your bank and approve through its app or website. Follow the live instructions and wait for an available CAD balance before placing the order.
Review and buy SOL
Select SOL, enter your CAD budget and preview the purchase. Check the currency, SOL quantity, quoted price and displayed fees. Kraken's buying page says these details appear before confirmation. Save the transaction record once the purchase completes.
For the funding step, follow an Interac payment through the purchase route rather than treating a CAD deposit as SOL already received.
Check the costs of buying and withdrawing
Kraken's Instant Buy support explains that a displayed fee and, where applicable, a spread are separate parts of the purchase pricing. The spread is included in the quoted price. Do not add it again when calculating from the final CAD total and SOL quantity.
Compare quotes for the same CAD budget close together in time. Then include the withdrawal cost. Use the CAD estimator to try an example, then check the platform's confirmation screens for the actual amounts.
| Check | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Funding | CAD credited after any funding charge |
| Purchase | Total CAD charged and SOL received, including quoted spread |
| Withdrawal | Current SOL fee, minimum and amount arriving in the wallet |
| Decision | Net SOL delivered for the same total CAD spend |
You can check an indicative SOL value as a separate reference observation; it is not your platform’s executable purchase quote.
Move SOL to your own wallet
In Kraken's web interface, use Portfolio, Withdraw and select SOL. Match the withdrawal network to your wallet's Solana receive screen. Paste the address and compare it carefully with the destination before confirming.
Review the current minimum, fee and net amount. Kraken states that withdrawal fees can change and the final fee appears at confirmation. If practical, send a small test above the minimum, confirm receipt, then send the remainder; two withdrawals can incur two fees.
Keep a small SOL balance available for later wallet transactions. Solana's documentation says network transaction fees are paid in SOL. This wallet fee requirement is distinct from the platform's withdrawal charge. Protect your recovery phrase; it is never a deposit instruction or something to share with support.
Already sent SOL that has not appeared? Use the Phantom transfer troubleshooting guide to separate the sender record, on-chain status and wallet display before retrying.
Avoid confusing purchase, transfer and cash-out
- Buying SOL creates an exchange balance. It does not automatically fund your external wallet.
- An incompatible network can cause permanent loss. For the transfer described here, use native SOL on Solana.
- A pending withdrawal is not proof of wallet receipt. Check the platform's activity and destination balance before retrying.
- Withdrawing SOL sends crypto. To receive bank money, sell SOL for CAD and request a separate cash withdrawal. Bitbuy's guide documents that CAD exit.
A few loose ends
Common questions
Can I buy SOL directly with Interac?
With the account deposit method described here, Interac adds CAD to your platform balance. Buying SOL is a separate step.
Which network should I choose?
Choose Solana for native SOL and use a destination address that explicitly supports that network. Verify both sending and receiving screens.
Does a low Solana network fee mean a cheap purchase?
No. Funding charges, the buy quote and spread, and the platform withdrawal fee affect what reaches your wallet. Compare net SOL received.
