In plain English

Sending crypto, selling it for Canadian dollars and receiving those dollars in your bank are different steps. Check that your chosen service supports the whole route before moving your tokens.

  1. Check the deposit

If a wallet transfer is needed, match the accepted asset and network.

  2. Read the CAD quote

Check what the sale delivers after the included costs.

  3. Confirm the bank receipt

Track the CAD payment separately from the crypto transfer.

A cash-out can combine steps in one order. A token transfer alone does not deliver Canadian dollars to a bank.
The precise meaning

Cashing out means turning crypto into Canadian dollars and receiving those dollars in your bank account. Sending a token, selling it and withdrawing CAD are separate actions; some services combine them into one order.

What does network mean?

The blockchain used for a token or transfer. Both ends must support the correct asset and network; a matching label alone does not verify a transfer.

In this guide: contents & sources

To cash out crypto in Canada, first find a service that supports your asset, its network and a CAD payout to your bank. If your crypto is in your own wallet, you may need to deposit it before selling. If it is already in a supported account, the wallet transfer may be unnecessary.

Work backwards from the bank payment before moving the tokens. An account that can receive your coin is not automatically an account that can sell it for CAD or pay those dollars to your bank. The final amount is the amount after the costs of the route you actually use.

A transfer, a sale and a bank withdrawal do different jobs

A crypto transfer changes where the tokens are held. A sale exchanges them for another asset or currency. A CAD withdrawal moves a Canadian-dollar balance out to a bank payment route. Look at the asset beside the balance rather than treating every button labelled Withdraw as a cash-out.

Crypto.com's CAD withdrawal guide describes selling crypto into its CAD account, then requesting a bank withdrawal. Paytrie's transaction documentation describes a combined stablecoin sell order: the seller sends USDC and the service sends CAD to their e-Transfer email. These are examples of different flows, not a recommendation or a promise that either accepts your particular deposit.

Check the bank route before sending your crypto

A provider may have a bank-linking step as well as identity checks. For example, Crypto.com currently requires a successful CAD deposit before a withdrawal back to the same bank account; its help page notes that some older deposits may need to be repeated. This is that provider's condition, not a rule to apply to every Canadian cash-out service.

  1. Confirm the CAD payout

Check which withdrawal method is available to your own Canadian account, its limits and the bank details or email it requires. Complete the account checks shown by the service before depositing crypto.

  2. Confirm the sale

Find out whether the service can sell your asset directly for CAD or whether a separate conversion would be needed. Each extra transaction needs its own quote and cost check.

  3. Confirm the deposit

If the tokens are outside the service, open its current deposit instructions. Match the asset and network, then check the address, any required memo or tag, and the deposit minimum.

If the crypto is in your wallet, track the deposit separately

Read the receiving instructions before opening the sending wallet. A shared ticker or familiar-looking address does not establish that the service supports the token on the network you hold. If the route is unsupported, stop and confirm an alternative with the provider rather than guessing a network or treating a bridge as part of the ordinary deposit.

Check how the sending fee is paid. If it is deducted from the tokens sent, the receiving quantity is smaller. If it is paid separately in the network's fee asset, keep that cost separate from the quantity credited. A small test may add another fee and still has to meet the receiving minimum; it does not replace the destination checks.

Save the transaction ID, sending network and amount. A wallet showing a submitted transaction does not establish that the receiving account has credited it. Kraken's cryptocurrency deposit status page distinguishes network processing, a credited balance that may still have withdrawal restrictions, a fully available balance and a deposit held for manual review. Check the status in the account as well as on the network.

Read the quote as a net CAD amount

For a sale, start with the tokens that will actually be sold and the executable quote offered for them. A USD market price or a Bank of Canada reference rate can help explain the units, but neither is a promise of the CAD amount your provider will deliver. Paytrie's quote documentation shows a USDC-to-CAD direction and warns that quotes are time-sensitive.

Suppose 500 USDC has been credited and the hypothetical sale quote is CAD 1.36 per USDC. The gross amount is 500 × 1.36 = CAD 680. Assume an additional sale fee of 1% of that gross amount and a separate CAD 2 bank withdrawal charge. The amount sent to the bank is 680 − 6.80 − 2 = CAD 671.20. These are hypothetical calculation inputs, not any provider's current rates or fees.

Also suppose the earlier wallet transfer cost CAD 3, paid separately in another asset, so all 500 USDC reached the account. The bank still receives CAD 671.20; subtracting the separate transfer expense leaves CAD 668.20 after the listed route costs. If a quote already includes a fee or spread, do not subtract it again. If the transfer fee instead reduces the USDC received, replace 500 with the actual credited quantity.

Try the 500 amount, 1.36 rate, 1% fee and CAD 2 fixed charge in the CAD estimator. It models the conversion and entered fees, not deposit support, delivery time or the separate CAD 3 wallet cost. This example measures cash-out proceeds; it does not measure investment profit or a taxable gain.

A CAD account balance still needs a bank withdrawal

After a sale, check that the balance is CAD and available for withdrawal. Review the payout destination, the amount to be debited and the amount the bank is expected to receive. A balance shown in Canadian dollars for display purposes is not necessarily a withdrawable CAD balance.

Crypto.com's documented flow includes a separate CAD withdrawal request and internal review before the bank transfer is processed. A combined sell order can look different: Paytrie's sell flow includes the CAD payment, so check that order's status rather than looking for an exchange-style CAD balance. In either case, compare the payment record with the bank receipt before calling the cash-out complete.

If the money is missing, find the stage that stopped

Use the last completed action to narrow the problem. Network confirmations, a service's review and a bank payment are different queues. A fast blockchain does not remove the later review or banking step, and a completed sale does not prove that a withdrawal was requested.

Paytrie's documented sell statuses distinguish awaiting-crypto from sending-fiat, with separate expiry and support states. Kraken treats an on-hold crypto deposit as a manual-review matter. Those labels help identify the responsible stage; do not apply one provider's labels or expected timing to another service.

Keep the token, sale and bank records together

Save the deposit quantity, network fee, accepted quote, actual sale proceeds, withdrawal charge and bank receipt. Put the unit and date beside each amount. This lets you explain why a wallet value, the sale amount and the final bank payment differ without treating them as interchangeable.

If your next question is whether you made or lost money on the holding, the cash-out amount alone is insufficient. You also need the acquisition amounts and costs. The crypto returns in CAD guide explains how coin prices, exchange rates and fees affect a return calculation; this guide ends at the cash reaching the bank.

A few loose ends

Common questions

Can I send crypto straight to my Canadian bank account?

An ordinary CAD bank transfer destination is different from a blockchain deposit address. Use a supported crypto sale and CAD payout route. Follow the provider's deposit instructions if it needs the tokens before paying CAD.

Do I need to move crypto that is already on an exchange?

A further crypto transfer may be unnecessary if your existing account supports selling the asset for CAD and withdrawing that CAD to your bank. Check your account's available sale and withdrawal options before moving it elsewhere.

How long does cashing out crypto in Canada take?

Check the estimate for each stage of your own route: any crypto deposit, the sale, provider review and bank payment. Confirmation and processing conditions differ. A quoted blockchain time is not an estimate for the whole cash-out.

Is the amount deposited in my bank my crypto profit?

No. It is the cash you received from the route. Calculating a gain or loss needs the acquisition amounts and relevant costs as well. The worked example here calculates net proceeds, not investment profit or taxable gain.
